Yoga Flame

November 7, 2011

If you follow me on Twitter, you might have seen this sketch posted up. I am actually doing an old design exercise. It’s when you do a bunch of quick sketches and throw it away likes it’s nobodies business. It’s to keep the brain flowing but to not stay stagnant on a single idea. I guess this one stayed close to my heart, so I decided to make an honest woman out of it.

If there is one gratifying thing about Adobe Illustrator, it’s seeing the amount of progress that one puts in from start…

…to finish. Personally, I don’t even think this is a great graphic and I don’t even think it looks like match with fire but shit, I actually like this damn thing.

To celebrate looking at computer screen for 8 hours, pushing little vector points from here to here, and getting inspired by 123 Klan, Mel Marcelo, Hydro 74, Studio On Fire and I Love Dust, I decided to pick up some limited edition Kaws X Hennesy bottles. I am actually on that design hype and it feels good for once.

Yellow Blaze

October 23, 2011

I am a hermit. As my age progresses, I find my self jumping from one interest to the next. Tattoo culture is what skateboard culture was to me back in 2002. I’ve become super enthusiastic about it and I have no fucking clue what’s it about but all I want to do is learn more. This weekend was the Bay Area Tattoo Convention at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Burlingame. The best of the best from all over came out here but there was only one person I really came to see.

And this all started from a book. Superfan over night, Shige has become my favorite tattoo artists to date. This dude is a fucking rock star. Cocaine flaring in his nose, porn stars sucking his balls and all while his audience eagerly awaits his very next move with his tattoo gun. It’s art in motion and a thing of beauty.

Henry Lewis from San Francisco’s own Skull and Swords. I saw the Grime monster there too but you almost don’t want to bother him when he’s in his sleep.

I took a different route home and stumbled across my old stomping grounds when I used to live in Twin Peaks. I always order the same thing at El Castillito. There spicy pork burrito is literally the only thing worth eating, but it always keeps me coming back for more.

A little something for myself. A Mike Rubendall flash print. If you don’t know who he is, check out the incredible documentry below on Vice’s show Tattoo Age.

So you saw it? That big double letter thingy in the corner? I was getting a little sick of the little tag that I created a while back. Once every blue moon, I always try and flex my graphic design muscles. Decided to go big with one of the worst acronyms out there. I mean how many times have we seen a “S” & “F” combo?

Thuggish Ruggish Rug

July 31, 2011

My cat is going to tear this thing a new a-hole. 1 of 150 Tiffany colored Illest rugs only exclusive to Fatlace stores in SF & LA. Get the black version here.

Speaking of Fatlace, Hypebeast did a nice video segment on the cars of Mark Arcenal who is the co-owner and founder of the Fatlace and Illest brand.

And speaking of my cat, Bodhi turned one years old this past weekend. Can’t believe it has only been one year of sleepless nights from this vermin.

Dirty Hands

July 17, 2011

Harry Kim on the left, the director of Dirty Hands “The Art Crimes of David Choe” and the mother fucking man himself on the right, David Choe.

Mr. Choe is, how he puts it, a self proclaims man boy with no responsibilities. I call this the Peter Pan effect. A notion of how our minds refuse to grow up as our body gets older. It’s all about finding ways to peak at immaturity and doing whatever the hell that comes to mind. It’s the ultimate euphoria of self expression.

A couple of hours after the signing and watching his DVD, I have learned more then I ever have about this guy. I am not a fan of David Choe but the curiosity has beaten me to want to find out who this guy really is. Sometimes I think his antics are more forced then they are genuine…but then again, there really is no threaded guideline on how to be a complete lunatic. Like a tall tale, you just have to believe in the stories that were told before you.

Dave loves defiance. Set some guidelines on how to do something correct and the guy will piss on it and buttfuck it up the ass. I can definitely dig that.

And Chinatown just cause. This is the one SF district that I neglect the most. This is the famous China banks. Watch Dennis Busentiz destroy it below (0:44).

For The City

July 10, 2011

Back at the Upper Haight to go see Joe Brook‘s photo show and the almighty FTC skateshop. Nothing but balls and liquor as far as my eyes can see.

Tom Penny: Switch flip in Spain.

Rodrigo TX: Frontside nose grind in Bangkok, Thailand.

Speaking of TX, you would have never guessed this Brazilian guy to be in SF. Thank god FTC had his board on the wall. Another one for the collection.

Actually make that two. Christian Hosoi x FTC coffin deck.

Garage party back in the hood at Hilltop. Two steppin’ to the latest Bruno Mars and J-Lo song is pretty funny when everyone around you is thirty plus years old.
