Criminal Minded

February 7, 2012

This was on Friday. The sun is out, the Bay is beautiful and it’s only the afternoon before things really get out of hand later in the evening. This should have been my red flag. You can undoubtedly know that things will never turn out perfect from here on then and if I would have known, I would have just gone home.

I can’t merit this day in ruining my whole weekend. After all, Super Bowl Sunday was as good as it can gets and hey, I had sex with my girlfriend Saturday. I guess if there is one word I wanted to use, it’s just disappointed. The whole point in seeing a free KRS-ONE concert on Friday is…to see KRS-ONE!

I have no idea why I would assume this mother fucker would start performing on time. Cardinal rule at rap concerts, MCs love to come fashionably late. Not like he should give any disregard to the public transporters (yeah, so what…I don’t have a car), but my ass had to get on the last train home at midnight.

I probably missed a good one. It had all the ingredients of a good show. The bar was accessable, the DJ was solid, no one was hardly there and they didn’t even care about my camera with my pocketed lens. Eh…what are you going to do. I am batting zero in concerts for the year, but hopefully I can get back in the game.

The guys’s at Clinkroom are destroying my brain and injecting wonderful illustrative ideas in my head. Forgery is flattering but I literally have cheat when I can.

Unfortunately not all of it is translating on paper…but this is step one out of a fifty. Just crazy how I am not even trying and yet, this supposedly goat is turning into a tiger, dog and a deer right before my eyes. It need about seven different renditions total and I haven’t even touched the type treatment. I hate my snails pace work progression but hopefully we can make this project happen.

Want more motivation? I am sure most of you have heard the news with David Choe. I want to say this is a prime example of a man at the right place at the right time but David Choe deserves everything he gets. Further proves that doing what you love to do can seek riches when you least expect it (and I am not even talking about money). Choe’s art has brought him to all places of the earth and this Facebook IPO cashout is just a small piece to his success. I am flabbergasted. I literally almost hate the guy and to matters worse, he was on Howard Stern today. Argh!

I Am Not A Human Being

November 14, 2011

When I am on the bus going to work, I kind of always put on a slight retard gaze. You know, where you kind of portentously stare in one direction but in reality, you are looking in another direction. It’s kind of a hidden perverted skill where you are keeping your eye on a (say) pair of tits without blatantly eye humping them with your dick. So who is this fucker “HYPE”? He is literally everywhere in SF right now. I glance here and there and notice he’s in Chinatown, Western Edition, Haight, North Beach, TL and even downtown. He’s a modern day CAP but with even less flare. Though his style lacks, I respect the hustle cause there are literally no bombers anymore…and especially in major bustling cities. “I am not a graffiti artists. I am a graffiti bomber”CAP via Style Wars

Speaking of SF artists, I went to go check out MARS-1‘s art show at Fecal Face on Clement St. I first heard of MARS when he did an ad with DJ Q-Bert with Upperplayground and even got to see it at Q-Berts house on one if his Tuesday night parties. This is his first show since 2005 and boy was it a busy one.

Let’s not bullshit ourselves. No one really cares about this Pacquiao vs Marquez fight. The whole thing was horse shit from the get go, which ultimately held true since this was one of the worst fights I have ever seen. Bring on what people have been wanting to see for the longest time. Pacquiao vs Mayweather. Now!

And the end of my weekend was spent in rated-G fashion at Jaenna’s 1st birthday party in San Bruno. A part of me wishes I was still that age but I really hated how shit stuck to my balls when it hit the fan. To be young…oh yes, to be young.

Now back to the grind. Just me, the computer, Howard Stern radio show and these god damn vector pieces. Time for another long night. Good Night.

Yoga Flame

If you follow me on Twitter, you might have seen this sketch posted up. I am actually doing an old design exercise. It’s when you do a bunch of quick sketches and throw it away likes it’s nobodies business. It’s to keep the brain flowing but to not stay stagnant on a single idea. I guess this one stayed close to my heart, so I decided to make an honest woman out of it.

If there is one gratifying thing about Adobe Illustrator, it’s seeing the amount of progress that one puts in from start…

…to finish. Personally, I don’t even think this is a great graphic and I don’t even think it looks like match with fire but shit, I actually like this damn thing.

To celebrate looking at computer screen for 8 hours, pushing little vector points from here to here, and getting inspired by 123 Klan, Mel Marcelo, Hydro 74, Studio On Fire and I Love Dust, I decided to pick up some limited edition Kaws X Hennesy bottles. I am actually on that design hype and it feels good for once.

Yellow Blaze

October 23, 2011

I am a hermit. As my age progresses, I find my self jumping from one interest to the next. Tattoo culture is what skateboard culture was to me back in 2002. I’ve become super enthusiastic about it and I have no fucking clue what’s it about but all I want to do is learn more. This weekend was the Bay Area Tattoo Convention at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Burlingame. The best of the best from all over came out here but there was only one person I really came to see.

And this all started from a book. Superfan over night, Shige has become my favorite tattoo artists to date. This dude is a fucking rock star. Cocaine flaring in his nose, porn stars sucking his balls and all while his audience eagerly awaits his very next move with his tattoo gun. It’s art in motion and a thing of beauty.

Henry Lewis from San Francisco’s own Skull and Swords. I saw the Grime monster there too but you almost don’t want to bother him when he’s in his sleep.

I took a different route home and stumbled across my old stomping grounds when I used to live in Twin Peaks. I always order the same thing at El Castillito. There spicy pork burrito is literally the only thing worth eating, but it always keeps me coming back for more.

A little something for myself. A Mike Rubendall flash print. If you don’t know who he is, check out the incredible documentry below on Vice’s show Tattoo Age.

So you saw it? That big double letter thingy in the corner? I was getting a little sick of the little tag that I created a while back. Once every blue moon, I always try and flex my graphic design muscles. Decided to go big with one of the worst acronyms out there. I mean how many times have we seen a “S” & “F” combo?

Fongstarr For Hobbs One

January 10, 2011

For those of you who even remember, I got a chance to shoot some photos for DJ Hobbs One at a Golden State Warriors game about two years back. Hobbs touched based with me in doing a logo for him, so I stretched my design muscles to see what I can do.

Part of the only reason why I took this project is the conceptual ideas that Hobbs originally gave me seemed feasible for me to create. As you can see, my sketches were never to boast over, but I know my strengths most time would be spent in front of the computer instead.

Nothing you haven’t seen before. I actually haven’t worked with proper colors in a while as I am sure all these color treatments will print out different then it appears on screen. I am sure I will have to tweak that a bit. Overall, it came out as expected and that is something I can be content about.
